specimen number:

location:
Lost Lake Claim, Nacimiento, Sandoval Co., New Mexico, USA
description: The Lost Lake Claim, situated in the Nacimiento mining area near San Pablo in Sandoval County, New Mexico, lies within a red-bed copper deposit hosted in Triassic sandstone and arkose sedimentary strata. Historically part of a region worked for copper, the claim became famous among field collectors for its distinctive secondary mineralization, which formed as primary copper sulfide minerals dissolved in pore fluids and reprecipitated within the porous host rock. The locality is globally renowned for producing spherical, dark blue azurite concretions and nodular aggregates embedded on tan sandstone. Commonly nicknamed blueberries or mushroom caps by mineral collectors, these distinctive blue specimens are often preserved alongside green malachite crusts and fossilized wood replaced by copper minerals, making the claim a favorite target for specimen recovery.
Pale blue non-lustrous balls of crystallized azurite to almost 2.0 cm in diameter on matrix. In good condition, nice miniature for this locality and species.
Size: 4.0 x 2.0 x 2.0 cm (miniature)
