Arthurite with Olivenite
specimen number:
2354052
location:
Majuba Hill Mine, Pershing Co., Nevada, USA
description: Situated in the Antelope Range of Pershing County, Nevada, the Majuba Hill Mine is a complex copper, tin, and silver deposit associated with a Tertiary rhyolitic porphyry complex. Mining began in the early twentieth century primarily for copper, with secondary production of tin during wartime efforts, before the site gained widespread fame among mineral collectors for its exceptionally rich oxidation zone. The locality produced outstanding display specimens and micro-crystals of arthurite, a rare hydrated copper iron arsenate mineral that forms distinctive pale green to apple-green crusts and tufts within the weathered portions of the ore body.
Olive green crystal groupings consisting of micro crystals of arthurite to 0.3 cm in diameter across the top of matrix. In good condition. Good example for the species. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Eric Laskowski.
