Analcime
specimen number:
2062685
location:
North Table Mtn., Golden, Colorado, USA
description: North Table Mountain in Golden, Colorado, USA, is a prominent flat-topped mesa capped by ancient basalt lava flows. Within the gas pockets or cavities of these volcanic rocks, mineral collectors and geologists have long discovered a rich variety of remarkable zeolite minerals, such as analcime, thomsonite, and chabazite, which formed when water interacted with the cooling lava over millions of years.
A grouping of non-lustrous opaque white analcime crystals set up on a small amount of matrix. In good condition. Nice thumbnail for this famous Colorado locality.
Size: 2.7 x 2.5 x 2.3 cm (thumbnail)
