North Table Mountain near Golden, Colorado, features Paleocene basalt lava flows capping the sedimentary layers of the Denver Formation. While historically quarried for aggregate and building stone, the mountain became internationally famous among mineral collectors for its cavity-filling deposits. The basalt vesicles contain a diverse assemblage of zeolites, such as analcime, chabazite, mesolite, scolecite, and thomsonite. Hobbyists and scientists have explored these exposures for over a century, establishing the site as one of the premier mineral-collecting localities in the United States.
