Interesting locality example for the species, thin platy yellow crystals of wulfenite to 0.4 cm in size on matrix with crystallized quartz. Collected in 1995.

The Jose mining district, located within the Cookes Range near Cookes Peak in Luna County, New Mexico, had mining operations generally active between circa 1880 and 1937, with its associated camp functioning around 1902 to 1905. Geologically, the area is characterized by older Paleozoic sedimentary strata such as limestone and dolostone that were intruded by Tertiary igneous rocks, creating favorable host environments for replacement mineral deposits and fault-controlled veins containing valuable metal ores.
