Wulfenite
specimen number:
2062624
location:
Cholla Cat Mine, Alamo, La Paz County, Arizona, USA
description: The Cholla Cat Mine is a small, privately collected prospect located in the Alamo Mining District of La Paz County, Arizona. Its unusual name stems from the field conditions encountered during its exploration, where miners faced dense stands of teddy bear cholla cactus alongside local ringtail cats. Regionally, the geology of the Alamo district features rugged desert terrain characterized by mid-Tertiary volcanic rocks, including extensive ash-flow tuffs and lava flows overlying older crystalline basement foundations. The site is best known among mineral collectors as a locality for distinct mineral specimens such as brightly colored wulfenite crystals formed within local hydrothermal veins and fractures.
Attractive thin platy translucent crystals of wulfenite measuring to 1.0 cm in size on a breccia matrix. This is in very good condition. Neat locality example for the species, yet quite attractive. A previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark accompanies the specimen. This was collected by Malcolm Alter.
Size: 6.5 x 2.5 x 2.5 cm (small-cabinet)
