Wulfenite with Cerussite
specimen number:
2062730
location:
Rowley Mine, Maricopa Co., Arizona, USA
description: The Rowley Mine, situated in the Painted Rock Mining District of Maricopa County, Arizona, is located within a complex structural setting characterized by Tertiary volcanic rocks interacting with older basement formations along extensive fault and shear zones. Discovered in 1899, the site initially attracted attention for its gold-bearing copper veins, leading to underground development including shafts and a historical concentrator built during World War I. Although commercial metal production faced challenges over the decades due to groundwater influx and fluctuating ore grades, the mine eventually gained international renown among mineral collectors for its exceptional secondary oxidation mineralization, particularly vibrant crystal specimens.
Sparkling orange micro crystals of wulfenite across matrix with micro crystalline cerussite. Nice reference quality example collected in 1981. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
