location:
Jianshan Mine, Shanshan Co., Turpan, Xinjiang, China
description: Located in Shanshan County within the Turpan Prefecture of Xinjiang, China, the Jianshan Mine is situated in an oxidized lead, iron, and manganese deposit hosted within the remote Kuruktag Mountains. Operating primarily as an open-pit iron-manganese mine, the locality burst onto the international mineral collecting scene in the early 2000s following the discovery of spectacular secondary mineral pockets in the upper oxidized zone. The site became world-famous for producing some of the world's finest specimens of wulfenite, a lead molybdate mineral characterized by thick tabular to pyramidal crystals with an intense, fiery red-orange color and brilliant adamantine luster.
Attractive cluster of lustrous orange red tabular platy wulfenite crystals, the largest measuring to 3.0 cm in size. Some damage present as seen. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 6.5 x 4.5 x 3.5 cm (small-cabinet)
