Vanadinite with Coronadite

specimen number:
2341372

location:
Taouz Caidat, Er-Rissani Cercle, Errachidia, Draa-Tafilalet, Morocco

description:
Classic specimen for the species and locality, attractive lustrous red tabular crystals of vanadinite to 0.5 cm in size across a stalactitic black non-lustrous coronadite matrix. This is crystallized all around with no real points of attachment. Slight micro-damage present, still in good condition.

The geology of Taouz in southeastern Morocco is characterized by rugged desert terrain featuring Paleozoic sedimentary and volcanic rocks rich in diverse metallic mineral deposits, particularly iron and manganese oxides that form striking stalactitic and vuggy mineral formations. Historically, small scale mining and prospecting in this remote desert area date back decades, driven by both commercial extraction and a thriving local mining community. In recent years, the region has gained international renown among mineral collectors and museums for producing exceptional aesthetic specimens of vanadinite on coronadite associated rare secondary mineral species.
