Vanadinite with Calcite
specimen number:
2063184
location:
Apex Mine, San Carlos, Chihuahua, Mexico
description: The Apex Mine in the San Carlos region of Manuel Benavides, Chihuahua, Mexico, is an oxidized skarn and hydrothermal deposit system that gained renown among mineral collectors for producing brilliant, highly sought-after red, orange, and honey-brown vanadinite crystals. Historically operated for metal extraction, the mine became exceptionally famous within the collecting community for specimens featuring sharp hexagonal vanadinite prisms often associated with contrasting white calcite matrices. Due to its limited production and striking aesthetic quality, specimens from this locality remain prized collector items today.
Lustrous prismatic crystals of vanadanite measuring to 0.7 cm in length rich across the top of matrix with minor calcite. Some damage present, overall still in good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 8.5 x 3.5 x 3.5 cm (small-cabinet)
Collection: Ray DeMark
