Vanadinite on Coronadite
specimen number:
2341066
location:
Taouz Caidat, Er-Rissani Cercle, Errachidia, Draa-Tafilalet, Morocco
description: The geology of Taouz in southeastern Morocco is characterized by rugged desert terrain featuring Paleozoic sedimentary and volcanic rocks rich in diverse metallic mineral deposits, particularly iron and manganese oxides that form striking stalactitic and vuggy mineral formations. Historically, small scale mining and prospecting in this remote desert area date back decades, driven by both commercial extraction and a thriving local mining community. In recent years, the region has gained international renown among mineral collectors and museums for producing exceptional aesthetic specimens of vanadinite on coronadite associated rare secondary mineral species.
A beautiful combination specimen with lustrous thick slightly translucent deep red crystals of vanadinite to 1.0 cm in size aesthetic across the top of a botryoidal black coronadite matrix. In super condition. Classic material for this locality. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen. His label notes that he acquired the piece through Jordi Fabre in 2008 and prior to this it was part of the Silvane collection.
Size: 7.0 x 3.5 x 3.0 cm (small-cabinet)
