location:
Sakangyi, Kyauk-Pyat-That, Mogok, Pyin-Oo-Lwin, Mandalay, Myanmar
description: The Sakangyi pegmatite, situated near Kyauk-Pyat-That in the famous Mogok Stone Tract within the Mandalay Region of Myanmar, formed from late-stage granitic igneous intrusions into ancient metamorphic host rocks. Historically exploited alongside the broader gem-rich tracts of Upper Burma through traditional tunneling and manual extraction methods, the locality achieved legendary status among mineral collectors for producing world-class gem specimens rather than just faceting rough. Sakangyi topaz is renowned worldwide for its sharp, highly lustrous orthorhombic crystals that exhibit outstanding optical clarity and transparency, ranging from completely colorless and champagne tones to delicate ice-blue shades. These fine prismatic crystals are frequently preserved attached to matrices of milky or smoky quartz and feldspar, making them prized showpieces in top museum and private collections.
A loose single glassy sharp terminated colorless absolute gem quality crystal of topaz. Classic for the species and locality, this is an excellent condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the Alton collection.
