Topaz
specimen number:
2063321
location:
Lost Creek, Tarryall Mts., Park Co., Colorado, USA
description: Located in the Tarryall Mountains of Park County, Colorado, Lost Creek is renowned among rockhounds and collectors for its distinctive pegmatite geology, where intrusive granitic rocks host open pockets filled with well-formed crystals. Prospects in this rugged region were originally explored during Colorado mineral rushes for precious metals, but the area later earned a legendary status for yield of gem-quality minerals like smoky quartz, microcline feldspar, and brilliant blue topaz. Mining and casual collecting in the surrounding backcountry have produced outstanding specimens over the decades, making the Lost Creek drainage a classic North American locality for alpine pegmatite minerals.
A loose grouping of two glassy pale blue and gemmy topaz crystals without matrix. Sharply terminated and naturally crystallized on the base, this is in great condition all around. Very fine and choice for a Colorado topaz. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. This weighs 66.02 g.
Size: 5.0 x 4.0 x 2.5 cm (miniature)
