Aranzazu Mine, Concepcion del Oro, Zacatecas, Mexico
description: The Aranzazu Mine, situated in the historic mining district of Concepcion del Oro in Zacatecas, Mexico, features skarn-type copper, gold, and silver mineralization associated with intrusive rocks altering surrounding carbonate sequences. Documented mining activity in this rugged mountain region dates back nearly 500 years, beginning with Spanish colonial prospecting for precious metals in the sixteenth century. Modern commercial exploitation has evolved through various owners into an active underground operation focusing on polymetallic extraction, making it a prominent part of the enduring mining heritage of Zacatecas.
Semi lustrous sharp crystals of tennantite measuring to 1.0 cm in size across a white crystallized quartz matrix. Minor pyrite present as well. This is classic Mexican material from the 1970s. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
