Good combination specimen for this famous locality. Scalenohedral semi lustrous translucent crystals of calcite to 2.5 cm in size on matrix with much yellow crystallized native sulfur throughout. In good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. His label notes that this was collected by Ed Reynolds and Gail Deck in 1999.

The Maybee Quarry in Monroe County, Michigan, dates back in history to the 1850s, initially operating as a source of building stone and later becoming widely known among mineral collectors before it was abandoned and flooded prior to World War I; it was subsequently drained and put back into production around 1960, and it continues to operate today under modern ownership as part of the Stoneco aggregate operations. Geologically, the site features sedimentary rock strata containing significant deposits of limestone, alongside notable occurrences of native sulfur and celestine crystals formed through unique geochemical reduction processes within the local sedimentary layers.
