Stilbite
specimen number:
2062882
location:
Green Peter Dam, Linn Co., Oregon, USA
description: The geology around Green Peter Dam in Linn County, Oregon, consists primarily of Tertiary volcanic flows, tuffs, and breccias belonging to the Western Cascade range, featuring vesicular basalts and andesites. While the broader Quartzville district gained historic fame for nineteenth-century gold and silver prospecting, the roadcuts and local basalt cavities near the dam became well known to mineral collectors for secondary vesicle-filling minerals. Among these, stilbite occurs as attractive, crystalline groupings formed by low-temperature hydrothermal alteration and groundwater action within the porous volcanic host rocks.
Neat locality example for the species, colorless lustrous crystals of stilbite to 1.0 cm in height coming off matrix. This is in very good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Charles Trantham.
Size: 7.0 x 6.0 x 3.0 cm (small-cabinet)
