A loose gemmy light pink perfect double terminated crystal of spodumene, this the variety known as kunzite. Very nice for this classic locality.

The Pala Chief Mine in San Diego County, California, was discovered and opened in May 1903, seeing its most intensive commercial production of tourmaline and gem-quality kunzite until about 1914, after which full-scale operations ceased and mining became sporadic. Geologically, the deposit is hosted within a zoned granitic pegmatite system that intruded older Mesozoic batholithic rocks, featuring complex core zones and mineralized pockets where lithium, beryllium, boron, and other volatile-rich pegmatitic minerals crystallized.
