Sphalerite with Galena, Calcite
specimen number:
8911141
location:
Nikolaevskiy Mine, Dal'negorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Russia
description: The Nikolaevskiy Mine, located in the Dalnegorsk ore district of Primorskiy Kray, Russia, opened in 1982 and remains an active underground operation focused on polymetallic extraction. Geologically, the deposit is hosted within deformed Triassic-Jurassic limestone and skarn systems associated with Late Cretaceous volcanism. Hydrothermal activity formed extensive vugs and cavities within the carbonate rocks, creating ideal spaces for the crystallization of world-class sulfide and gangue mineral assemblages, including spectacular galena, sphalerite, pyrrhotite, pyrite, quartz, and fluorite.
A large lustrous black complex crystal of sphalerite, this hosting lustrous cubic crystals of galena to 2.0 cm in size. Minor calcite present. This is in good condition and comes with a previous label from the often collection.
Size: 7.5 x 7.0 x 4.0 cm (small-cabinet)
Collection: Alton Collection
