Scheelite
specimen number:
2063108
location:
Comstock Lode Mine, Teviston, Cochise Co., Arizona, USA
description: Located in the Teviston district of Cochise County, Arizona, the Comstock Lode Mine sits within a local geology characterized by quartz veins and veinlets cutting through a quartz diorite and monzonite pluton. Discovered in 1944 and explored sporadically through the 1950s, the small past-producing operation yielded a few tons of ore containing scheelite alongside minor quantities of silver and lead. Mining activities at the site relied on open cuts, shallow shafts, pits, and short adits, while prospectors also targeted low-grade tungsten placers in the surrounding area.
A superb locality example for the species, this a group of attractive lustrous orange pseudo-octahedral scheelite crystals in a grouping without matrix. This is a floater that is completely crystallized all around, in great condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 4.0 x 3.0 x 2.0 cm (miniature)
