Tae Hwa Mine, Neungam-ri, Angseong-myeon, Chungju, North Chungcheong, South Korea
description: The Tae Hwa Mine, located in Neungam-ri within the Angseong-myeon area of Chungju, South Korea, is situated in a geologically rich terrain featuring hydrothermal quartz vein-type deposits that host significant tungsten mineralizations. Historically operated during the mid-to-late 20th century as a key commercial tungsten mine, the locality became world-renowned among collectors prior to major Chinese discoveries for producing some of the finest known scheelite specimens. These classic specimens are highly prized for their sharp, lustrous dipyramidal crystals in rich amber to dark brown tones, often found in aesthetic combination with quartz, ferberite, molybdenite, and occasional clear to purple fluorite. Today, despite active mining having ceased, the surrounding dumps remain a famous site of historical interest for mineral enthusiasts.
An excellent thumbnail for this Korean classic, a lustrous brown pseudo-octahedral sharply formed crystal of scheelite on a small amount of ferberite matrix with a smaller scheelite crystal at the base. Very aesthetic and in great condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from Pala Properties International.
