description: Graves Mountain in Lincoln County, Georgia, is a renowned geologic formation composed of kyanite-quartz schist created by intense regional metamorphism and hydrothermal alteration. While historically mined for industrial minerals like kyanite and pyrophyllite during the twentieth century, the site is now world-famous among mineral collectors for producing large, brilliant rutile crystals and rare phosphate species. Rockhounds and museums prize the locality for its prismatic rutile specimens that showcase exceptional crystal habits embedded within the weathered schist matrix.
A mostly loose grouping of lustrous large thick rutile crystals. Minor pyrophyllite is attached on some sides. Overall in very good condition and crystallized completely all around. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 6.0 x 4.0 x 3.7 cm (small-cabinet)
