Quartz
specimen number:
2351062
location:
Jeffrey Quarry, Pulaski Co., Arkansas, USA
description: Located in Pulaski County, Arkansas, the Jeffrey Quarry is famous among mineral collectors for producing magnificent solution quartz crystals, often found as transparent, lustrous, double-terminated prisms associated with dickite and cookeite. Geologically, these quartz crystals formed during hydrothermal activity within fractures and veins of the Paleozoic Jackfork Sandstone during the Ouachita Orogeny. Commercial quarrying operations began in the mid-twentieth century primarily for crushed stone, but mineral collectors quickly recognized the site for yielding world-class, highly prized quartz specimens.
Classic cluster of jackstraw colorless gemmy quartz crystals, the type often referred to as solution quartz. No points of attachment and complete all around, in good condition.
