Quartz
specimen number:
2341052
location:
Adrar Tirecht Bou Oudi, Tata, Souss-Massa, Morocco
description: Adrar Tirecht Bou Oudi in the Tata province of the Souss-Massa region in Morocco features a unique geological deposit situated within Lower Cambrian limestone and fractured sedimentary strata crossed by hydrothermal veins. Mining operations in this arid Anti-Atlas mountain terrain recover gem material both from primary veins and secondary residual mudstones using a combination of manual extraction and mechanical excavation. The resulting amethyst crystals are globally renowned for their distinct features, notably double terminations, striking red needle-like hematite inclusions, and characteristic hourglass-shaped color zoning.
Classic specimen for this locality, a loose gem crystal of quartz double terminated. Perfect all around, this has a very attractive hourglass inclusion which is purple in color. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen.
Size: 4.0 x 2.3 x 1.1 cm (miniature)
