Quartz
specimen number:
2063458
location:
Suttrop, Warstein, Soest, Arnsberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
description: Located in the Sauerland region of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, the historic mining area around Suttrop and Warstein features complex Paleozoic sedimentary formations influenced by regional hydrothermal activity. During historical mining and quarrying operations in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, local excavations uncovered remarkable pockets yielding classic European mineral specimens. This locality became world-renowned among collectors for producing distinct, milky-white, double-terminated quartz crystals, often found loose or with internal cores. Because commercial extraction has long since ceased, these pristine, free-floating crystals remain highly prized antique collector items preserved in historic European mineral cabinets.
Good for this old classic German locality, a white opaque non-lustrous sharply formed loose double terminated crystal of quartz. Complete all around with no points of attachment. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
