Quartz
specimen number:
2063046
location:
Dinkey Lakes pegmatites, Fresno Co., California, USA
description: The Dinkey Lakes pegmatites in Fresno County, California, are hosted within granitic intrusive rocks of the Sierra Nevada batholith, where pegmatite and alaskite bodies formed pocket structures containing notable mineral specimens. Historically, the remote alpine area has attracted mineral collectors and claim-holders since the mid-twentieth century, particularly for extracting large, well-formed smoky quartz crystals alongside feldspar and mica.
A brilliant lustrous deep black smoky quartz crystal without matrix. Naturally crystallized all around and in super condition. This exhibits slight translucency. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. This was collected by Steve Knox in August, 2011.
Size: 3.5 x 2.5 x 2.0 cm (miniature)
Collection: Ray DeMark
