Quartz
specimen number:
2062966
location:
Holland Mine, Washington Camp, Santa Cruz Co., Arizona, USA
description: The Holland Mine, situated in the Washington Camp district of the Patagonia Mountains in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, is characterized by skarn-type replacement ore bodies formed at the contact zones between Paleozoic limestones and intrusive granodioritic to quartz monzonite rocks. Historically active from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century, the mine was worked primarily for base and precious metals, yielding significant quantities of zinc, lead, copper, and silver from both oxidized surface zones and deeper sulfide-bearing veins. In addition to its industrial mining heritage, the site and its surrounding district have gained enduring fame among mineral collectors for producing exceptional specimens of pocket-derived quartz crystals, notably large and well-formed Japan-law twins.
A loose glassy and gem colorless double terminated crystal of quartz. This is in great condition. Nice locality example for the species. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
