location:
Krystal Tips claim, Petersen Mt., Washoe Co., Nevada, USA
description: The Krystal Tips claim on Petersen Mountain in Washoe County, Nevada, is celebrated for its rich deposits of world class smoky quartz and amethyst scepter crystals. Geologically, the area consists of heavily fractured and weathered granitic bedrock crisscrossed by numerous quartz veins and vuggy pockets that harbor exceptional crystal formations. Mining and collecting history at this steep, high-elevation site spans decades of dedicated effort by commercial operators and recreational miners who navigate treacherous access roads to extract museum quality mineral specimens from pockets filled with clay and weathered material.
A somewhat unusual deep smoky purple glassy skeletal crystal of quartz. This is in very good condition all around with some natural contacting along the lower edges as seen in the video. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark and was collected in June, 2010.
