location:
Crystal Hill Mine, Saguache Co., Colorado, USA
description: The Crystal Hill area in Saguache County, Colorado, features complex volcanic geology dominated by collapse breccia structures and ash-flow tuffs that host precious metals alongside vugs containing quartz and amethyst. Prospecting and mining began in the 1880s with a focus on gold and silver, followed by a revival in the late 20th century utilizing open-cut heap leach operations. Today, the site is well known among rockhounds and mineral collectors for specimen hunting on public lands around the reclaimed mine workings.
A beautiful light purple glassy absolute gem quality terminated crystal of quartz. In super condition all around. This exhibits what is often referred to as the Muzo habit. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
