Pyromorphite
specimen number:
1162007
location:
Wheatley Mine, Chester Co., Pennsylvania, USA
description:
A wonderful old time classic from Pennsylvania with lustrous green crystals of pyromorphite measuring to 0.4 cm in size across the top of this matrix. This is in terrific condition considering the age of this piece. There is a good history on this piece and several previous labels come with the specimen. At one time the specimen was part of the collection of John L. Parnau, his label is taped to the back of the specimen. A note on the back of one of the labels also says that the specimen was offered for sale in 1955 in an issue of Rocks and Minerals magazine, on the inside front cover, by the noted dealer Hugh Ford. This would have been collected prior to 1860. The specimen is figured in The Mineralogical Record East Coast collections special issue.
