specimen number:
9907002
location:
Buick Mine, Viburnum Trend, Iron Co., Missouri, USA
description: The Buick Mine, located within the Viburnum Trend of Iron County in southeastern Missouri, is a major underground operation focused on lead and zinc ore deposits hosted in solution-collapse breccias within dolostone. Following its opening in the late 1960s, the mine gained legendary status among mineral collectors when a pocket was discovered in the early to mid 1970s producing unique, elongated, lustrous specimens famously known as "pyrite bars," some of which feature central hollows revealing a stalactitic origin.
A classic example of what are sometimes called a pyrite bar, this collected in the early to mid 1970s. In good condition. This is naturally crystallized all around.
