A fine old German classic showing sharp crystals of pyrargyrite measuring to 1.0 cm in size on matrix, these coated by micro crystals of miargyrite. In great condition, this is quite rare. The specimen comes with a previous collection label.

The Samson Mine in Sankt Andreasberg, Niedersachsen, Germany, was historically established around 1521 and officially closed on March 31, 1910, operating as a profoundly deep silver ore producer embedded in a complex hydrothermal vein system consisting of Devonian slates, shales, and sandstones near the contact aureole of the Brocken granite. Geologically, the local veins hosted rich silver-bearing shoots and a variety of rare sulfosalts, most notably miargyrite, which occurred alongside other silver minerals in narrow, steep fissures shaped by intense tectonic activity.
