Malachite with Calcite, Cerussite
specimen number:
2341207
location:
Georges vein, Sidi Ayed, Boulemane Caidat, Boulemane Cercle, Fes-Meknes, Morocco
description: Sidi Ayed in the Boulemane region of Morocco features complex geological formations characterized by vein systems and carbonate host rocks that cut through the local terrain. The mining and collecting history of this area centers primarily on artisanal and small-scale operations targeting open cuts and mineralized veins rather than large industrial mines. Collectors and local miners have historically extracted notable mineral specimens, particularly distinctive varieties of fluorite and aragonite, with some material occasionally sharing historical market links or confusion with nearby classic Moroccan mining districts like Aouli.
Attractive green crystallized malachite across the top of a stalactitic goethite matrix, about 35% of this coated with colorless crystallized calcite and micro cerussite. Aesthetic and in great condition. Collected in 2021.
