Malachite
specimen number:
9892138
location:
Shilu Mine, Yangchun Co., Yangjiang, Guangdong, China
description: The Shilu Mine, situated in Yangchun County within Guangdong Province, China, is a contact metamorphic skarn deposit primarily formed by the intrusion of granitic magma into carbonate host rocks. This hydrothermal activity produced rich copper and iron ore bodies accompanied by spectacular secondary mineralization zones in oxidized cavities. Mining at the site has a rich history dating back over two thousand years to the Han Dynasty, though modern large-scale commercial extraction developed in the twentieth century. Shilu is internationally renowned among mineral collectors and museums as one of China's premier classic mineral localities, most famous for producing world-class specimens of deep blue azurite, velvety green malachite, and sharp, lustrous copper minerals.
A floater cluster of beautifully crystallized chatoyant green malachite. No points of attachment and crystallized completely all around, in excellent condition.
