Magnetite with Microcline
specimen number:
2341001
location:
Tirrhist, Anemzi, Agoudim Caidat, Boumia Cercle, Midelt, Draa-Tafilalet, Morocco
description: The geology of the Tirrhist and Anemzi region within the High Atlas mountains of Morocco is characterized by complex Mesozoic sedimentary formations, primarily marine limestones and marls, that have been intruded and hydrothermally altered by Cenozoic magmatic activity. There is no large-scale industrial mining history here; instead, the area is renowned among mineral collectors and local prospectors for small-scale artisanal pocket mining in alpine veins and clefts. Magnetite occurs here as well-crystallized specimens often associated with microcline, quartz, and various silicate minerals, prized by collectors for their distinct crystal habits and association with the region's unique pegmatitic and hydrothermal alpine-type fissures.
Lustrous sharp octahedral crystals of magnetite measuring to 0.5 cm in size scattered across the top of a crystallized microcline matrix. This is in very good condition.
