Linarite
specimen number:
2063432
location:
Grand Reef Mine, Graham Co., Arizona, USA
description: Situated in the Klondyke District of the Aravaipa Mining District in Graham County, Arizona, the Grand Reef Mine is a classic lead-zinc-copper-silver deposit formed within faulted Precambrian metasedimentary rocks and Tertiary volcanic structures. Mined intermittently for industrial lead and silver during the early to mid twentieth century, the locality gained renowned status among mineral collectors for its exceptional secondary minerals produced through the oxidation of primary sulfide ores. The Grand Reef Mine is particularly famous for producing world-class linarite specimens, featuring lustrous, deep intense blue monoclinic crystals up to several centimeters in size, often associated with other rare secondary copper and lead minerals like leadhillite and caledonite.
Vivid grouping of blue lustrous slightly translucent prismatic linarite crystals measuring 0.7 x 0.2 x 0.1 cm in size in a tight pocket within matrix. There are no visible terminations, this still very nice for the species. In good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
