Kentrolite
specimen number:
2351030
location:
Langban, Varmland, Sweden
description: Located in the Paleoproterozoic Bergslagen ore province of Varmland, Sweden, Langban is a world-renowned metamorphic deposit hosted in dolostone and skarn that was actively mined for iron and manganese from the 15th century until 1972, yielding hundreds of unique mineral species. Among its many rare types is kentrolite, a dense, dark reddish brown to black silicate featuring short prismatic or sheaflike crystal clusters that formed within the complexly altered manganese-rich mineral assemblages heavily prized by global collectors and researchers.
Rich lustrous kentrolite throughout matrix. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jack Nieburger.
