Hemimorphite with Quartz, Calcite
specimen number:
2063429
location:
Summit Mine, Broadwater Co., Montana, USA
description: Situated in the Radersburg mining district of Broadwater County, Montana, the Summit Mine is set within complex hydrothermally altered rock formations. Historically operated as an underground silver, lead, and zinc mine, its primary shaft was developed down to a depth of six hundred feet to extract primary sulfide ores like galena. Although historically exploited for base and precious metals, the site later gained famous distinction among mineral collectors for producing world-class secondary lead and zinc specimens. Collectors particularly prize the mine for its exceptional, highly lustrous hemimorphite crystal aggregates, alongside notable secondary minerals such as descloizite, mimetite, cerussite, and occasional massive purple fluorite.
A wonderful locality example for the species, this basically a cluster of colorless slightly translucent semi lustrous hemimorphite crystals, quite aesthetically arranged in the largest crystals measuring to almost 2.0 cm in height. These are dusted with micro colorless crystallized quartz and calcite. In very good condition. Collected by Chris Tucker in the early 2000's. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
