An open pocket across the front of this matrix is lined with lustrous light blue botryoidal crystallized hemimorphite. Classic material for this Mexican locality, most of these were collected in the 1960s or 1970s. In excellent condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.

The La Bocona deposit is part of the Cerro Las Minitas project located in Durango, Mexico. Historical small-scale underground mining across the broader Cerro Las Minitas property primarily took place between 1970 and 1981, followed by intermittent operations and modern exploration phases by various companies (the exact standalone opening and closing dates specifically for the historical La Bocona workings are not formally documented). Geologically, the area is characterized by carbonate replacement, skarnoid, and manto-style deposits. Mineralization at La Bocona occurs within skarnoid- and hornfels-altered margins surrounding a central intrusive stock, hosting high concentrations of silver, lead, and zinc associated with sulfide-rich replacement zones.
