Fluorite with Quartz, Ferberite
specimen number:
2063044
location:
Kara-Oba W deposit, Moiynkum, Jambyl, Kazakhstan
description: The Kara-Oba deposit located in the Moiynkum district of the Jambyl region in Kazakhstan is a prominent rare-metal and tungsten-molybdenum ore system formed through late-stage magmatic and hydrothermal processes. Geologically, it is characterized by extensive greisenization associated with granitic intrusions, where hot volatile-rich fluids altered the host rocks and concentrated high amounts of tungsten-bearing minerals alongside quartz veins and stockworks. Historically, the site gained attention for systematic regional mineral exploration and prospecting during the mid-twentieth century, becoming a well-known locality for economic rare-metal evaluation as well as yielding fine specimens for mineral collectors.
Choice combination piece from the early 1990s. Purple octahedral crystals of fluorite to 2.0 cm in size are set up on a cluster of bladed black ferberite crystals. Slightly smoky semi lustrous crystals of translucent quartz measuring to 3.5 cm in length are present as well. This is in good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 4.5 x 4.0 x 4.0 cm (miniature)
