Fluorite with Quartz
specimen number:
2062662
location:
Nancy Hanks Mine, Unaweep, Mesa Co., Colorado, USA
description: The Nancy Hanks Mine, located in Nancy Hanks Gulch within Unaweep Canyon, Mesa County, Colorado, originated during the late nineteenth-century regional copper rush and later saw sporadic evaluation for fluorspar. Geologically, the site is situated in a unique landscape where mineralized fissure veins and fracture systems cut through ancient Precambrian crystalline rocks—primarily granite and gneiss—that are unconformably overlain by younger sedimentary layers. Originally developed via shafts and tunnels for base and precious metal extraction, the mine and its surrounding district later gained recognition among mineral collectors for producing fine specimens of quartz, amethyst, and sea-green fluorite.
Green lustrous crystallized fluorite across the top of a purple quartz matrix. The backside of this has been cut and polished. In good condition.
Size: 3.5 x 2.5 x 2.0 cm (miniature)
