Fluorite with Pyrrhotite, Calcite

specimen number:
2063223

location:
Nikolaevskiy Mine, Dal'negorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Russia

description:
An aesthetic classic miniature for this locality, two absolute gem quality colorless lustrous sharp cubic crystals of fluorite to 2.0 cm on edge are set up on a cluster of pseudo-hexagonal pyrrhotite crystals. The pyrrhotite crystals are then coated with micro crystalline calcite. This is in good condition with very minimal micro-damage present. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark and dates to the early 1990s.

The Nikolaevskiy Mine, located in the Dalnegorsk ore district of Primorskiy Kray, Russia, opened in 1982 and remains an active underground operation focused on polymetallic extraction. Geologically, the deposit is hosted within deformed Triassic-Jurassic limestone and skarn systems associated with Late Cretaceous volcanism. Hydrothermal activity formed extensive vugs and cavities within the carbonate rocks, creating ideal spaces for the crystallization of world-class sulfide and gangue mineral assemblages, including spectacular galena, sphalerite, pyrrhotite, pyrite, quartz, and fluorite.
