Fluorite with Calcite
specimen number:
2062905
location:
Xianghuapu Mine, Xianghualing ore field, Linwu Co., Chenzhou, Hunan, China
description: The Xianghuapu Mine is part of the complex Xianghualing polymetallic ore field in Linwu County, Hunan Province, China, a region characterized by extensive skarn and hydrothermal replacement deposits formed through intense granitic magmatic activity. Historically operated for tin and associated metals, the mining district has gained major recognition among mineral collectors for producing world-class specimens. Fluorite from this mine is particularly celebrated for forming glassy, highly transparent crystals that frequently display vivid green hues, sharp cubic or modified octahedral habits, and intricate internal zoning or phantom growth patterns.
From the 1990s, translucent sparkling octahedral crystals of fluorite to 4.3 cm in size are set up on a matrix with light green translucent cubic crystals of fluorite. Disc-shaped gemmy lustrous rhombohedral crystals of calcite colorless and to 1.8 cm in size are present as well. All of the prominent crystals are in good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 7.0 x 7.0 x 7.0 cm (small-cabinet)
