Fluorite
specimen number:
2063000
location:
Shangrao, Jiangxi, China
description: Shangrao, located in Jiangxi Province, China, features complex regional geology characterized by extensive metamorphic and sedimentary basements intruded by Mesozoic granitic magmatism that facilitated hydrothermal mineral deposition. Local mining and quarrying operations have expanded significantly over the decades to extract industrial resources and hydrothermal vein systems, which frequently host exceptional crystal pockets. Within these geological formations, hydrothermal fluids rich in calcium and fluorine interacted with host rocks to precipitate notable deposits of fluorite. Specimens from this area, particularly mint-green and multi-colored cubic or stepped crystal clusters resting on contrasting quartz or accessory mineral matrices, have gained widespread recognition among global mineral collectors and museum curators.
A cluster of mostly purple fluorapatite dark green non-lustrous slightly translucent octahedral fluorite crystals without matrix. The largest crystal measures 4.0 cm across. In very good condition. From the middle 2000's. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 6.0 x 5.0 x 3.0 cm (small-cabinet)
