Fluorite
specimen number:
2062994
location:
Felix Mine, Azusa, Los Angeles Co., California, USA
description: The Felix Mine, situated in the San Gabriel Mountains near Azusa within Los Angeles County, California, dates back to the late 19th century and represents a historic local site historically associated with small-scale prospecting and mineral extraction within rugged granitic terrain. Geologically, the area is characterized by weathered and altered basement granites and host rock formations that provided hydrothermal pathways for mineral deposition. While not a major commercial metal producer, the site has gained significant recognition among modern mineral collectors for producing exceptional specimens. Among these, the green fluorite recovered from the locality is particularly prized, typically occurring as gemmy, translucent octahedral or stepped-growth crystals nestled on granitic matrix or quartz, making specimens highly sought after by regional enthusiasts despite restricted modern access.
Very pretty green gemmy semi lustrous crystals of fluorite to 2.5 cm in size covering the top of matrix. This is in very good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. This was collected in October, 1993 by Tish Hunter and Bob Housley.
Size: 7.0 x 5.0 x 2.5 cm (small-cabinet)
Collection: Ray DeMark
