Fluorapatite
specimen number:
2062869
location:
Otter Lake, Quebec, Canada
description: Otter Lake, Quebec, is renowned for its Grenville-age metamorphic terranes, notably featuring crystalline carbonate rocks and calc-silicate pegmatites where classic mineral deposits formed. Historical mining activity in the area, particularly at sites like the Yates Mine, initially targeted radioactive elements and accessory minerals, but the region ultimately gained global fame among mineral collectors for yielding magnificent, well-formed green and brown fluorapatite crystals embedded within contrasting orange carbonate matrices alongside diopside and fluorite.
A perfect loose lustrous double terminated crystal of deep green glassy slightly translucent fluorapatite. No points of attachment. In excellent condition. The specimen comes with two previous labels, one from the collection of Ray DeMark and the other from Jerry Van Velthuizen who collected the specimen in July, 1999.
Size: 5.5 x 4.0 x 3.5 cm (miniature)
