location:
Otter Lake, Pontiac RCM, Outaouais, Quebec, Canada
description: Located in Quebec, Canada, the Otter Lake area in the Pontiac Regional County Municipality is situated within the Grenville Province of the Canadian Shield, a geological region famous for its high-grade metamorphic rocks, calc-silicate units, and skarns. Discovered in the early twentieth century, the locality became well known among mineral collectors and researchers for yielding exceptional crystalline specimens from historic radioactive mineral prospects and local quarries. Collectors frequently seek out large crystals of titanite, fluorapatite, scapolite, molybdenite, uraninite, allanite, and pyroxene group minerals like diopside, making it a classic Canadian mineral locality.
A cluster of lustrous black thick bladed crystals of allanite-ce with little matrix. In good condition for the species, nice large crystals. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. He collected the piece on August 22, 1999.
Size: 9.0 x 6.0 x 3.5 cm (small-cabinet)
