location:
Green Monster Mt., Prince of Wales Island, Alaska, USA
description: Situated on Prince of Wales Island, Alaska, USA, Green Monster Mountain is a world-famous mineral locality renowned for its remarkable skarn deposit formed by hydrothermal fluids interacting with Paleozoic limestone and intrusive igneous rocks. Mined and explored primarily by mineral collectors starting in the mid-twentieth century, the site became famous for producing some of the world's finest specimens of epidote, a calcium aluminum iron sorosilicate mineral. Collector interest reached its peak due to the discovery of magnificent, lustrous, dark green prismatic epidote crystals nestled alongside quartz and copper minerals, cementing Green Monster Mountain's reputation as a classic American specimen locality.
Numerous lustrous deep green sharply formed crystals of epidote measuring to 1.7 cm in height coming off of a crystallized quartz matrix. This is in terrific condition all around. An excellent miniature for this classic American material. Collected by Doug Toland. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
