Epidote
specimen number:
2063106
location:
Green Monster Mt., Prince of Wales Island, Alaska, USA
description: Green Monster Mountain on Prince of Wales Island, Alaska, is world-famous for producing some of the finest epidote crystals ever discovered. Geologically, the area features a rugged copper-magnetite-skarn system where hot hydrothermal solutions altered ancient limestone and surrounding rocks, creating rich zones of garnet, quartz, and deep green epidote. Originally explored and mined for copper and other metals in the early twentieth century, the remote site later gained legendary status among mineral collectors and museums worldwide for yielding large, highly lustrous, and beautifully formed epidote and quartz specimens.
A sharp lustrous deep green prismatic crystal of terminated epidote to .0 cm in height coming off matrix. Minimal quartz present. This is in very good condition with minimal damage along the edges of the matrix only. The prominent crystal in great condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. Collected by Doug Toland.
Size: 4.5 x 3.0 x 3.0 cm (miniature)
Collection: Ray DeMark
