Iouriren Mine, Afella Ighir Caidat, Tafraout Cercle, Tiznit, Souss-Massa, Morocco
description: Situated in the western Anti-Atlas Mountains of southern Morocco, the Iouriren Mine (also known as the AGM Mine) is a notable gold deposit hosted within quartz veins cutting through ancient Precambrian geological formations. Owned and operated by the Akka Gold Mining Company, the site was actively mined primarily for primary gold and electrum contained alongside sulfidic ores like pyrite, arsenopyrite, and pyrrhotite. In addition to commercial precious metal extraction, the locality has gained attention among mineral collectors for yielding aesthetic specimens of native gold hosted on quartz matrix, along with well-crystallized secondary minerals such as siderite, calcite, and epidote.
Good example for the species, this a floater cluster of lustrous slightly translucent but mostly opaque sharp rhombohedral crystals of dolomite, the largest just over 4.0 cm across. Small inclusions of a sulfide mineral, possibly pyrite or marcasite, are scattered throughout. There are no points of attachment and this is in great condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen.
