Clinoclase
specimen number:
2063463
location:
Copper Stope, Majuba Hill Mine, Pershing Co., Nevada, USA
description: Located in the Antelope Range of Pershing County, Nevada, the Majuba Hill Mine is a complex multi-stage volcanic pipe system where intense hydrothermal activity deposited a rich assortment of copper, uranium, and other rare secondary minerals. Mining operations began in the late 19th century and continued sporadically through the 20th century, targeting copper and tin within faulted rhyolite breccias and fractured conduits. The unique geochemical environment produced extensive oxidation zones, creating a renowned mineral locality famous for rare secondary copper and arsenate phases. The Copper Stope within the mine workings is particularly celebrated among advanced mineral collectors for yielding exceptionally diverse, rare micro-crystals that continue to fascinate field collectors and systematists alike.
The top of matrix is mostly covered with glistening blue crystals of clinoclase, some of them forming groupings to 0.5 cm in diameter. In very good condition. The specimen comes with two previous labels, one from the collection of Ray DeMark, and the other from Craig Stollburg who collected the piece during the summer of 1995. Quite choice for the species.
